WCCF Announces 2016 Youth Foundation Grants

May 24, 2016

The Wayne County Community Youth Foundation (YF) was established to engage students in local “structured” philanthropy by providing practical experiences on how community foundations operate, including learning more about local charitable giving, evaluating and recommending grant awards, and meeting local philanthropic leaders.

The Wayne County Community Foundation (WCCF) is pleased to announce the 2016 grant awards from the Wayne County Community Youth Foundation Fund. Based on the evaluations and recommendations from the members of the Youth Foundation, the WCCF Board of Trustees approved the following grant awards to support Wayne County youth activities:

OneEighty, Inc. received $500 to assist Teen Institute high school members in promoting anti-substance abuse among middle school students.

Orrville YMCA received $1,000 to provide a series of clinics where children get to learn and try different sports through their Summer Sports Sampler.

Wee Care Center received $1,800 to expand their Language Enrichment program to the summer months, to provide the program all-year long.

In the three years since the Youth Foundation began, 7 grants, totaling over $9,300, have been awarded to non-profit organizations serving the youth of Wayne County. This year’s Youth Foundation class had 31 student advisors, representing 9 local Wayne County high schools, who met one Sunday a month during the school year.

The WCCF is a not-for-profit charitable community organization established in 1978 to accept contributions, create and administer funds, and make grants for the benefit of the people of the greater Wayne County area. The Foundation has awarded more than $62 million in the form of grants and scholarships from its 390 separate funds. As part of the WCCF, donations can be made to the Wayne County Community Youth Foundation Fund by individuals, families, businesses and service organizations to allow for greater future grant opportunities. Contact Sara Patton, WCCF Executive Director, for more information.

The Youth Foundation grant guidelines and online application are available at www.waynecountycommunityfoundation.org. Competitive grant applications from nonprofit, tax-exempt, charitable organizations that benefit youth activities within the greater Wayne County, Ohio, area should be submitted by February 1 each year.
