Certain Scholarships listed below require a WCCF Financial Information Form to be included with the application. If this form is required, a link will be provided under the scholarship description.

If you have yet to determine which educational institution you will be attending at the time of completing the scholarship application, please list your first school of choice on the application. Changes may be made after the application is completed by contacting the Foundation at wccf@sssnet.com.

Scholarships through WCCF may be used for tuition and fees (not including room and board) required for enrollment or attendance at the educational instituion. Fees, books, supplies and equipment directly required for courses of instruction are eligible if they can be purchased directly from the school. If the scholarship is used for any other expense, the IRS considers it taxable income for the student.

Note: If you are a recipient of a scholarship through the Wayne County Community Foundation, all monetary awards will be made payable to your account at the post-secondary school you will be or are attending. Unless otherwise stated, checks will be issued in July, prior to the new school year. No checks will be awarded directly to any individuals. No awards shall be made to students with less than two grade “terms” (quarters, semesters, etc.) left before graduating from the program.

David Hedrick Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility: Applicant must be a current graduating senior or graduate of Smithville High School, located in Wayne County, Ohio. Applicant must be attending or planning to attend an accredited college or university, pursuing a degree in an engineering, math, or science related field. Applicant will be evaluated on high school academic record, high school extracurricular activities, civic and charitable activities, and financial need. This scholarship is not renewable, however previous recipients may re-apply.

Duane and Leonette Rowe Scholarship

Eligibility: Applicant must be a current graduating senior of Smithville High School or a previous recipient of the award. He/she must be enrolled or enrolling in a program that will lead to a Bachelor’s or an advanced degree in the fields of science, technology, engineering, or primary healthcare (RN, nurse practitioner, physician’s assistant, or family care MD/DO). Graduating seniors must have a minimum of a 3.20 GPA (on a 4.00 point scale) and an ACT score of no less than 30 or its equivalent SAT score. Currently enrolled college applicants must be in good standing as a full time student and have no less than a 3.00 GPA (on a 4.00 point scale). Preference shall be given to applicant with exemplary leadership, community service, and participation in extracurricular actives.

Donna Devore Lowe Scholarship

Eligibility: Applicant must be a graduate or current graduating senior of a high school located in Wayne County, Ohio who is enrolled or enrolling in an accredited educational institution to obtain a Bachelor's degree in nursing. Applicant must have resided in Wayne County, Ohio for at least three (3) consecutive years within the past ten (10) years, with preference given to current Wayne County, Ohio residents. Applicants must be actively engaged in community service and demonstrate leadership characteristics. Applicant must also demonstrate financial need.

Ferenc M. Relle Scientific Scholarship

Eligibility: Applicants must be current high school graduating seniors from any Wayne County, Ohio public or accredited private school with no less than a 3.25 GPA on a 4.00 scale and be enrolled or enrolling in an accredited college or university with a planned major in any field of science, with preference given to majors in a chemistry based science (biochemistry, analytical chemistry, geochemistry, nuclear chemistry, pharmacy, chemical engineering, etc.) Majors leading to a medical related profession (physical therapy, nursing, pre-med, pre-dental, pre-veterinary, etc.), with the exception of pharmacy, are NOT eligible to apply.

Eligibility: Applicant must have completed a full-time program at the Wayne County Schools Career Center (current graduating seniors or previous graduates), located in Wayne County, Ohio. Applicant must be attending or planning to attend an accredited college, university, or technical school pursuing a business-related post-secondary degree, certificate or license or pursuing a degree in an engineering, math, or science related field. Applicants will be evaluated on high school academic record, high school extracurricular activities, civic and charitable actives, and financial need.
