The Wayne County Community Foundation manages over 150 scholarship funds, each with their own criteria.
Scholarships through WCCF may be used for tuition and fees (not including room and board) required for enrollment or attendance at the educational institution. Fees, books, supplies and equipment directly required for courses of instruction are eligible if they can be purchased directly from the school. If the scholarship is used for any other expense, the IRS considers it taxable income for the student.
Certain Scholarships listed below require submitting the Student Aid Report (SAR) Acknowledgment Letter for the upcoming academic year. This report comes from the U.S. Department of Education's Federal Student Aid Office and is a result of completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This is a sample of the SAR. If it is required for a scholarship application, you will be asked to upload your document as a PDF before submitting the application.
If you have yet to determine which educational institution you will be attending at the time of completing the scholarship application, please list your first school of choice on the application. Changes may be made after the application is completed by contacting the Foundation at contact@wccfoh.org.
Note: If you are a recipient of a scholarship through the Wayne County Community Foundation, all monetary awards will be made payable to your account at the post-secondary school you will be or are attending. Unless otherwise stated, checks will be issued in July, prior to the new school year. No checks will be awarded directly to any individuals.
This year eight Wayne County high schools participated in the Scholarship Guide booklet that is mailed to their high school seniors in December.
The Scholarship Guide assists students and their families in obtaining scholarship information for higher education. The guide provides information for over 100 scholarships that are being awarded by foundations, corporations, governmental agencies, clubs, and other organizations on the local, regional, state, and national levels.

Eligibility: Norwayne High School seniors who are enrolled in college on a full-time basis (at least 12 semester hours). Must have maintained a 3.00 high school gpa and must have financial need.Harold Bowman Award
Eligibility: Awarded annually to any number of students in grade 7-12 for the advancement of a student's musical education through private study or participation in summer music clinics or camps. Applicants must be a part of one of the performing groups of Norwayne High School or Norwayne Middle School during the current school year and be enrolled in a major ensemble for the next school year, must have a current accumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale. Applicants will be required to perform an audition to show their current proficiency on their voice or instrument, as well as provide an assessment/justification of how the funds are used after they are spent.Helen Youngen Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility: Applicant must be a graduating senior from Norwayne High School, who has attended Norwayne High School a minimum of two years, with a preference to students from the Burbank, Ohio, area who attended elementary school in the Burbank school district. Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited college or university as a full-time student (12 hours per semester or its equivalent in quarter hours). Must have a minimum 3.00 GPA (on a 4.00 point scale) and have a demonstrated financial need. This is a four-year scholarship so long as the student maintains a minimum 3.00 GPA in college, remains a full-time student. First preference shall be granted to students who plan to study elementary education.Kandy Swain Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility: Applicant must be a Norwayne High School female athlete or female student interested in becoming a teacher. Must have a minimum 3.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale and be accepted to an accredited college or university. The applicant should show passion and love for Norwayne as Kandy Swain did during her lifetime.Larry and Cindy Acker Scholarship
Eligibility: Applicant must be a graduating senior of Norwayne High School or Wooster High School, located in Wayne County, Ohio. Applicants must be enrolled or enrolling in a two- or four-year college or university and planning to pursue a college degree in the area of business, education, or political science. Applicant must have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale during the four years of high school. Norwayne applicants must have attended at least one year at Norwayne Elementary or Norwayne Middle School. Wooster applicants must have attended at least one year of elementary or middle school in Wooster City Schools.Laura B. Frick Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility: Norwayne High School graduate who has a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer service to the community during their junior or senior year of high school and has financial need. Must have a high school cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher and must exemplify leadership qualities. This scholarship is renewable for up to 4 years as long as the student maintains a collegiate cumulative grade point average of 2.80 or higher.Paul and Sandy Obermiller Scholarship
Eligibility: Available to a Norwayne High School senior with a minimum grade point average of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale. Applicant must demonstrate moral and ethical character. First preference shall be granted to those with a demonstrated financial need. Awards will be made to an applicant meeting the criteria above who meet one of the following categories: 1) an applicant who plans to attend a vocational or technical institution and 2) an applicant who will be attending a 4-year college or university.SHS Mann Scholarship
