OrrViews Named to Receive WorthyWorks Award

March 26, 2012

The Orrville Area Chamber of Commerce (OACC), in partnership with the Wayne County Community Foundation (WCCF), is pleased to announce that the OrrViews community paper, will be recognized as the Chamber’s recipient of the 2012 WorthyWorks Award at the Chamber’s annual banquet on April 10.

This award recognizes the important contributions that not-for-profit members of the Chamber make to their community. Qualifying criteria focuses on the organization’s commitment to the quality of life, social conscience, and betterment of the Orrville community and includes a $1,000 contribution from the WCCF to support these continuing efforts.

“OrrViews was selected for its consistent and positive impact on our city,” said Jennifer J. Reusser, OACC President.  “As a part of Heartland Education Community Inc., this free paper has provided a vital, local communication link to and from our residents for the past 10-years.”

OACC Board members were impressed with the viability and sustainability of a newspaper that accepts only donations and no advertising.  Strategically, this has evolved into it becoming the primary communications tool for local schools, city hall, community members and other non-profit organizations.  Without OrrViews, many local organizations would struggle with broad-based communications, fundraising, and the recruitment of volunteer and service support.

“Wayne County communities often demonstrate their collaboration and leadership in developing and sustaining educational, economic, and social service opportunities for their workforce and residents,” said Ferenc M. Relle, Jr., WCCF Executive Director, “but what is really fascinating about this collaboration is how OrrViews has created its own version of public radio in a traditional newspaper format… all through the generosity and support of it local donor base.”

Please contact the Orrville Chamber office 330-682-8881 for reservations to the April 10 annual banquet.

Previous WorthyWorks recipients include Your Human Resource Center, Viola Startzman Free Clinic, Quota International of Orrville, and The Railroad Heritage Society.
