Community Foundation Recognized in Top Philanthropic Tier Nationally

April 26, 2013

We recently received confirmation that the Wayne County Community Foundation has once again met the nation’s highest philanthropic standards for operational quality, integrity and accountability. The notice comes from the Council on Foundations, a national association based in Washington, D.C. Originally confirmed in compliance in 2007, WCCF spent several months undergoing the reconfirmation process and is now confirmed through 2018.

Developed in the spirit of accountability, transparency and continuous self-improvement, National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations are evidence that community foundations seek excellence for their communities and their donors. National Standards guide the sound policies and practices that help community foundations achieve results and impact. Intended as a blueprint for internal organizational development and as a tangible set of benchmarks for external assessment of performance, the 41 National Standards address six key areas of community foundation operations:

  • Mission, Structure and Governance
  • Resource Development
  • Stewardship and Accountability
  • Grantmaking and Community Leadership
  • Donor Relations
  • Communications

Achieving confirmation and reconfirming compliance with National Standards is a rigorous process, guaranteeing that every community foundation that receives the National Standards designation demonstrates excellent philanthropic practice.
