WCCF Announces 2014 Youth Foundation Grants

The Wayne County Community Youth Foundation (YF) was established to provide educational and practical experiences on how community foundations operate for the purpose of getting students engaged in local "structured" philanthropy.

The Wayne County Community Foundation (WCCF) is pleased to announce the first grant awards from the Wayne County Community Youth Foundation Fund. Based on the evaluations and recommendations from the members of the Youth Foundation, the WCCF Board of Trustees approved the following grant awards to support Wayne County youth:

The Adaptive Sports Program of Ohio received $1,200 to support their sled hockey program.

Learn ‘N Play of Wooster received $1,500 to support their science education initiative.

“We were very pleased with the number of grant applications received by the YF,” said Ferenc M. Relle, Jr., Fund Advisor. “If the investment returns continue to stay strong, YF should be able to provide nearly twice as many grants for next year.”

The WCCF is a not-for-profit charitable community organization established in 1978 to accept contributions, create and administer funds, and make grants for the benefit of the people of the greater Wayne County area. The Foundation has awarded more than $53 million in the form of grants and scholarships from its 360 separate funds. As part of the WCCF, students in the Wayne County Community Youth Foundation can evaluate community needs and make grant recommendations for local non-profit organizations that support Wayne County, Ohio youth. Donations can also be made to the Youth Foundation Fund by individuals, families, businesses and service organizations to allow for greater future grant opportunities. Competitive grant applications from nonprofit, tax-exempt, charitable organizations that benefit youth activities within the greater Wayne County, Ohio area are accepted February 1 each year.
