Youth Foundation Meets at OABGC

October 14, 2016

The September meeting of the Wayne County Community Youth Foundation (YF) met at the Orrville Area Boys and Girls Club (OABGC) to learn more about its service and positive impact to the community.

"Stacey Ubelhart, OABGC administrative assistant, was the perfect host and an excellent spokesperson for the club. Her passion and excitement for helping local youth was very apparent," said YF adviser Ferenc M. Relle, Jr. "When I took the first YF class to the Club, they had an average of 162 children arrive daily. Now only a few years later, they have 310 participating in it Kidstop after school programs. This is a huge service commitment to the local community and to working families."

In addition to a presentation and tour of OABGC, the students participated in the "A Conversation in the Dark" leadership module consisting of a guide verbally helping their teammate navigate a blindfolded obstacle course.

These 37 YF student advisors represent nine Wayne County high schools and meet monthly on a Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Established to provide educational and practical experiences about foundations and non-profit organization, YF student advisors have already awarded over $11,200 in local grants.
