Youth Foundation Awards Grants

April 27, 2017

The Wayne County Community Foundation (WCCF) Board of Trustees approved $4,710 in grant recommendations made by student advisors of the Wayne County Community Youth Foundation (YF) to three organizations as follows:

Viola Startzman Clinic received $2,200 toward the completion of child-friendly pediatric and dental examination rooms.

Liberty Preparatory School received  $1,510 to provide mindfullness training to provide students with the skill sets to resolve daily issues in a positive and respectful manner.

Orrville United Way received $1,000 to continue their Happy Feet for Kids program of providing shoes, boots, and socks to students from families living below the 175% Federal Poverty Guidelines.

All grants were made from the YF fund that was established to help YF student advisors provide real world experiences in structured philanthropy and volunteerism.  To date YF students have made awards totaling over $15,000 to local non-profit organizations that serve Wayne County.  Student advisors are high school juniors representing 9 school districts that meet monthly at a different youth service provider in the county.  The deadline for applications for the 2017-18 class, beginning in August, is May 15.  See the Wayne County Community Youth Foundation page for application forms and information about participating in the Youth Foundation.
